01
Choose a small repeatable format
Keep the same title and a simple rhythm from edition to edition. Try one opening photograph, a short family note and several smaller stories. Repeating the format makes the series feel connected while each set of photographs gives it a different character.
02
Invite more than one voice
Ask each person for one highlight or a sentence about a photograph. Preserve their wording where possible. A child’s observation or a grandparent’s recollection may be more memorable than a polished editorial paragraph. Ask permission before including personal remarks.
03
Handle personal details deliberately
Decide who will receive the PDF before including names, school details, routines or locations. Photos may contain precise GPS information. LayoutFern keeps those coordinates local and does not print them automatically; any place label you add should suit the audience.
04
Save the edition, then start the next
Give your PDF a useful filename with the month and year. Save a copy in your own storage, since a browser draft is not a backup. Before sharing or printing, check the names, dates, image placement and whether everyone is comfortable with the contents.
A few practical questions
Can family members collaborate in the editor?
LayoutFern does not currently offer shared live editing. One person can collect the photographs and contributions, edit the edition and share the exported PDF.
Can I edit the AI’s captions?
Yes. Generated headlines, stories and captions are editable drafts. You can rewrite them, regenerate selected material or write everything manually.
Is an account required for a family newspaper?
No account is needed for manual layout and PDF export. An account is required to use AI writing credits.
